Sediments is a composition for rocks, plants, glass and synthesizers set to premiere at the concert Notes on Impermanent Forms, part of the Young Artists of Summer series organized by Uniarts Helsinki. This concert focuses on the transformation of natural elements, exploring how they take on forms that are always in flux and how humans play an integral role in their continuous evolution. From the fluid movement of water bodies merging together to the transformation of sand into malleable glass, the aim is to interpret and express these natural processes through interacting with the elements.
By enveloping the audience in a spatial sound experience, Sediments invites listeners to reflect on our complex relationship with the environment and the immense power we hold in shaping and altering it. The piece was developed in collaboration with Emil Sana and draws inspiration from interactions with natural elements. These interactions are translated into soundscapes featuring sonic textures from rocks, plants, and glass. The composition also incorporates synthesizers, blending the organic with the synthetic to create a meditative reflection on the impermanence and interconnectedness of the world.
